About the MoJo Fellowship

Project details

Journalists have been breaking news and covering stories using their phones for years, and events like the lockdowns have increased the need for mobile journalism skills. The In Old News Mobile Journalism Fellowship supported by Internews brought together 63 journalists from 19 states across India for a series of mobile journalism trainings with a focus on human rights coverage. Meet the fellows here.

Fellows participated in more than 50 hours of live sessions, collaborated in WhatsApp groups and tested their new skills in the field. MoJo stories by the fellows were published in over 15 national and international publications and covered topics like press freedom, bonded labour, farmer protests, immigrant rights, and more. Many fellows who received story grants also submitted behind-the-scenes looks at how they did their reporting. They were further supported through weekly newsletters, one-on-one mentoring and sessions on digital security and fact-checking organised by Internews.

Three MoJo fellows were selected to participate in YouTube's Creator Program for Independent Journalists, out of 49 journalists globally.
